I have heard people tell me to be content with what I have and that I should not desire more, yet I see it through the Bible that God has grander plans for me than I can even imagine (and I can imagine pretty grand!). This can be confusing for many, myself not excluded, so I thought I might try to clear the air with what I have learned so far.
Contented adj :feeling or showing satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation[1]
Complacency n 1: self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies[2]
There is a danger in confusing the above terms. Contentment is satisfaction, yet not aware of the dangers of being such. There is a great danger in becoming complacent in our fellowship with Christ. To become complacent would be to become lukewarm [3] and could cause our downfall.
I feel as though I’m not getting my point across yet, so I will point to 1 Corinthians 9:24, where Paul urges us to not simply run the race, but to run it with the intent to win. It is not enough to simply continue to do what we’re doing, but we should strive to do not only more, but to be better at what we are already doing.
God bless and good night

I absolutely have had these thoughts stirring inside of me and really think that you absolutely articulated them well. If it’s okay, I plan to incorporate your thoughts in an upcoming post with links back here to the origination. Thanks for thinking out loud about something so incredibly vital.

Inspiring and challenging message. As christians, there are times when we can settle into a routine that becomes completely deprived of all passion….
Thanks for the wake-up message!!!
