Many people try to refer to the “God of the Old Testament” as if He is a different God from the one in the New Testament, but the basis of Christianity lies much in the Trinity never changing. The God of the Old Testament cannot be any different from the God of the New Testament, and I have tried to break down some facts to show that Jesus is the God of the Old and New Testament.
No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. — John 1:18
And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form… — John 5:37
No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. — John 6:46
So no man has ever seen God the Father? I thought God spoke to people throughout the Old Testament.
Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again. — Numbers 11:25
And you said, “The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him. 25 But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer. 26 For what mortal man has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? — Deuteronomy 5:24-26
For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” — Deuteronomy 18:16
Not only did God speak to the people, but he even appeared to them!
So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” — Genesis 32:30
The LORD became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. — 1 Kings 11:9
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” — Isaiah 6:5
In Genesis 32:22-30 Jacob even wrestled for God “…until daybreak.” In Isaiah 6 God appeared to Isaiah in His glory. So now we know that God the Father has never been seen nor heard by man, yet God spoke and appeared to man all through the Old Testament. What does this leave?
“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” — John 8:58
It is here in John 8:58 that Jesus proclaims to the Jews that He was the God of the Old Testament.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. — John 1:3
This goes to show that even in the beginning, Jesus was there and it was Him who created the universe.

P.S. There were a couple different directions I wanted to go with this post (and you may have seen the other direction), so I will be writing something similar to this later on.
This is fascinating and I can’t wait to read the next part! I am praying that you will write it soon I want to see where you are going with this. Really good reading so far and I totally agree with you about the God of the Old Testament being the only God hence also the God of the New Testament… lol. I think the law+free gift is really the only difference between pre-Jesus and post-Jesus times where God’s relation to us is concerned? I mean we become sons and are freed from our sins but God changes US, not himself… right?
I’m just excited to be back and I will catch up on your other posts now.
God bless you!

My next post on this will probably be later this week. I doubt I’ll be able to research and write it all by the time I leave work, but I’ll try to get it done tonight so I can have it posted by the time you wake up tomorrow.

I’m always excited to read your reflections on anything, you have a way of writing things in a meaningful yet concise manner. And I know how exciting it is to have thoughts on many different things and to think “I wanna write about this, and about this, and about this..-” good luck with whatever you are thinking and planning to write! God bless you
